Holy Ghost Church

The Holy Ghost Church was built in Turku in late 16th century but already demolished in the 1650’s after suffering severe damage in a fire. In archaeological excavations starting 1983, the ruins were revealed, and the Holy Ghost chapel was constructed within them. Archaeological research of the church ruins has given the shape for the church, very little archival material of which remains.

The interior of the church was recreated virtually, and an application was made that allows viewing the whole interior of the building and exploring the objects in the church. The application is available for VR headsets and an App can be downloaded free of charge for iOS and Android tablets.

The application was created by our team members as a part of the Futuristic History project at the University of Turku in collaboration with Muuritutkimus and Casagrandentalo in 2014.
